What Are Skills — And Why Do They Matter?

Skills are exactly that for Claude. They're add-ons that give Claude specialised knowledge and abilities for specific tasks — creating professional documents, managing spreadsheets, building presentations, running business reports.
When you install a skill, Claude gets a set of built-in instructions for that task. It knows the format, the standards, and the best practices — so you don't have to explain them every time.
Skills are installed through the Cowork interface. Some come pre-installed. Others are available in skill marketplaces — collections of skills built for specific industries or workflows.
