Skills for Documents — Word, Excel, PDF, Presentations
A practical guide to bringing Claude into your real workflows, decisions, and connected tools.
One of the most immediately useful things Cowork can do is create professional documents. With the right skills installed, it handles the formatting so you don't have to.
Word documents (.docx)
Need a proposal, a contract template, a letter, or a report? The Word document skill creates fully formatted .docx files — with headers, page numbers, tables, and your branding.
Spreadsheets (.xlsx)
The spreadsheet skill creates proper Excel files — with formulas, formatted columns, colour coding, and even simple charts.
Presentations (.pptx)
The presentation skill creates PowerPoint files with slides, layouts, and your content structured clearly.
PDFs
Claude can create PDFs directly, or convert documents into PDF format. It can also read PDFs you upload — extract the text, summarise, or pull specific information.
Tell Claude what document you need and what it should contain.
Claude generates the file and saves it to your workspace folder.
Open it from your folder — or ask Claude to make changes first.
In case you hear this term out there...
